A Community in a Benefit for the King Family
09/16/2008 - By Kim Holifield-Jones - CEO of Glamorous Life, LLC Tragedy is such a common occurrence in our society yet, as quickly as we see or hear of it, we put it out of our minds somehow hoping that it will all just go away.
The misconceptions about individuals going through tragedies are that they will soon be healed and that they will return to their normal lives. The reality is that losing a loved one is the most distressing and emotional experiences we face. Most lives affected by death, especially tragically never are the same.
...I want to share a traumatically horrifying but true story that happened to my friends:
On August 16, 2007, Zachary King Jr. the only son of Melissa and Zachary King Sr. was killed by their family dog. When discovered, 7 year old Zach Jr. was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
While the mother and father were in excruciating pain, and saying their goodbyes at the hospital to their deceased son, the Father, in disbelief, was taken from his family by the police and placed into custody. More misery, Melissa and their two older daughters was called to the police station for questioning only an hour after leaving the hospital and the body of their son.
Zachary Sr. was later charged with second degree manslaughter. At the same time Hennepin County Child Protection was called to investigate the King family. A child protection case was opened and Zach Sr. was charged with child maltreatment; placing Zach and Melissa in paralyzing fear of losing their three daughters. With this terrifying chain of events unfolding before them, Zach, Melissa and their three daughters were frozen in fear and had little opportunity to grieve, much less begin the healing process.
Similar to Job in the Bible, there were no advocacy agencies supporting and defending Zach Sr. and Melissa. Even though Zach Sr. had no previous encounters with the legal system, his freedom was in jeopardy along with losing his upstanding reputation.
Although Zachary King Sr. was found not guilty of manslaughter, and he and Melissa were able to stay united with their daughters. Zach is unemployed due to being disqualified through the Department of Human Services to return to his line of work. Having his employment taken from him has caused his family tremendous financial difficulties causing great strain for him and Melissa fighting to keep their family together.
The King family members are still trying to recuperate from the traumatic death of their beloved son. The death of their son is a loss that doesn't make sense and the grieving parents are still trying to find some meaning from this excruciatingly life changing tragedy. As bereaved parents the Kings are finding it difficult to function.
We are asking our entire community to come together to provide an opportunity to show our care for the beautiful person we had in Zachary Jr., and to celebrate together with his family. As the community we would like also to help make a new beginning for the healing and restoration of this family.
On September 20, 2008 from 12:00 pm until 7:00 pm we would like invite you to unite as a community in a benefit for the King Family. The benefit will be held on the grounds of High Praise Ministries located 1200 North 7th Street, Minneapolis Minnesota. There will be various speakers, music, food, games and testimonies of support for the entire family.
Any donation will be greatly appreciated. Checks can be made to Bremer Bank/c/o King Family. You can also make donation at any Bremer Bank within the Twin Cities.
