Breaking news…Today June 14, 2008 at approximately 6:20 p.m. at the Cub Foods Store located at the corners of Lyndale Avenue and Broadway Avenue North, several Black youth ranging from ages 9-13 where seen stealing fireworks from the store.

In a called placed to the store today at 9:05 p.m., the manager on duty said that a group of “shoplifters” were evading store security when one youth was caught outside by a store employee and “passed out” due to the stress of being caught.  Police and ambulance were on the scene.  No word on the unidentified youth’s condition at this time. The manager on duty said he has video tape that shows what happened.  Twin City Business would request that the tape be released to the general public to show this is what actually happened.

Other accounts from witnesses allege that the child was grabbed by the neck and “slammed“ to the ground head-first.  Witnesses say that there was no reason to do that because he had caught the Black youth and could have brought him inside of the store for further investigation.

This is a hard call because as of right now the tape has not been released publically.  Cub Foods, store director Ed Anderson is an important part of the community but if this did happen the way witnesses reported, we as a community need to ensure this never happens again.

Witnesses declined to be identified.
